Constance "Connie" Grossman, 86, formerly of Duluth and Superior, died peacefully Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept 29, 1922, in Superior, daughter of Rebeckie (Charnowitz) and Maurice Lurye.

 

Connie graduated from Superior Central High School in 1939. She attended the University of Minnesota and worked in Minneapolis for a short time. Irving Grossman and Constance Lurye were united in marriage on Jan 14, 1945, in Superior. They celebrated more than 50 years of marriage, until Irving's death on Dec 13, 1995. For many years, Irving and Connie owned and operated Lurye Furniture, a company founded by her grandfather in the 1890's.

 

Her memberships included the former Temple Beth El, Hadassah, Jewish Women's League, Jewish Federation and Temple Israel. She served on the Blind Board of Supeior, for many years. Connie loved to play Maj Jongh, bridge, read, travel and was a fabulous cook. She was a people person, who truly had a gift for life.

 

Irving and Connie had a winter home in Sun City, AZ, for 25 years and looked forward to going there every winter. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to everyone whe knew and loved. She will be sadly missed by everyone whose life she touched over many years.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and sister Ruth Edelstein.

 

Survivors include her son, Harold (Anne), Superior; daughter Barbara (Sherman) Seamans, Superior; grandchildren, Bradley Seamans, Houston, TX, Bruce Seamans, Duluth, Ashley (Ryan) Carlson, Solon Springs, Ryan Grossman, Superior, and Aaron Grossman, Plymouth, MN; great-grandchildren, Tanner and Brody Carlson, Solon Springs; and nieces, Susan, Patti and Linda.

 

Pallbearers will be Bradley and Bruce Seamans, Ryan and Aaron Grossman, and Ashley and Ryan Carlson. Burial will be in the Superior Hebrew Cemetery.

Deceased Name: Irving Grossman

Irving Grossman, 74, formerly of Hayes Court, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1995, in the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth. He was born in Minneapolis. He lived in Superior since 1947. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired in 1984 as owner of Lurye Furniture and Carpet Co. He was a former member of Temple Beth-El. He was a life member of B'nai Brith and an associate life member of Hadassah. He is survived by his wife, Connie of Duluth; a daughter, Barbara Seamans of Superior; a son, Harold of Superior; and five grandchildren.

Services: 1:30 p.m. today in the Downs Funeral Home in Superior. Burial will be in the Superior Hebrew Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Benedictine Health Center.
